You should download Windows 95 Service Pack 1 and Winsock 2.0, which can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95. IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSTALL SYGATE PERSONAL FIREWALL ON A PDC (Primary Domain Controller) OR BDC (Backup Domain Controller). +-----------------+ | TROUBLESHOOTING | +-----------------+ * To verify that your computer is protected by Sygate Personal Firewall, click the Test button to do a sample port scan (you must be connected directly to the Internet before you do this, otherwise, you may scan your Gateway). * ICS cannot be used in conjunction with Sygate Personal Firewall. Make sure that ICS is not being used. This allows you to customize and dynamically block or allow ICMP depending on the ICMP type. * Support for Bay/Nortel VPN, PPTP VPN, and Shiva VPN. * Support for pcANYWHERE * Sygate Personal Firewall detects your Internet connection automatically. +--------------+ | KNOWN ISSUES | +--------------+ * If you are running an older version of Sygate Personal Firewall, you must completely uninstall the old version from the Start Menu before installing Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not support IP Forwarding or RRAS on an NT/2000 computer. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not block BootP for DHCP even if you have DHCP disabled even though you have not checked the "Allow DHCP" check box, you can still obtain your IP Address; but you might see several error messages. If you do not want to see any error messages, but use a DHCP server, click the "Allow DHCP" box under Advanced Port Settings. * If you upgrade to AOL 5.0 from AOL 4.0, you must reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall. * This build of Sygate Personal Firewall is not compatible with ICS. In order to use Sygate Personal Firewall, you must disable ICS (ICS is usually disabled by default). * ATM adapters are not supported. * If you installed a service pack to NT 4.0, Sygate Personal Firewall may not function properly. If this occurs, you need to reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall. * If you upgrade to Windows 2000, you must reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall. * Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1 is not compatible with SyGate for Home Office 3.11 or earlier versions. * If an application is re-enabled from disallowed application list, it needs to be restarted to be fully functional. * If Microsoft PPTP VPN is installed after Sygate Personal Firewall installation, you need to uninstall and reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall for PPTP to be functional. * Some Screen Savers, such as any Microsoft 3D screen savers, are not compatible with Sygate Personal Firewall ultra-high mode when they receive any network message. If you want to use the ultra-high schedule option, please verify its functionality when selecting a new screen saver under Windows 95. * Sygate Personal Firewall is not compatible with Cybercop and X-Win32. These applications will display error messages and fail when executing with Sygate Personal Firewall. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not support connection to Sygate Management Server through PPTP under Windows 95. If you want to use PPTP to connect to Sygate Management Server, you need to upgrade your operating system to Windows 98 or later version. +-----------------+ | HOW TO REGISTER | +-----------------+ For standalone users, you can register this software online at http://www.sygate.com/buy/salespolicy.htm. Upon registering this software, our website will automatically generate a serial number and registration key for your continued usage. Sygate Personal Firewall will function properly at all security levels in IIS 5.0. * In high security mode, Windows 95 will not let you log on to a domain. * DNS requests are not logged in Ultra-high mode. * Windows 2000 can not go in to Standby mode with Sygate Personal Firewall service running. * Sygate Personal Firewall will cease to function property once you upgrade to Windows 2000 from Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0. Uninstall and reinstall Sygate Personal Firewall to ensure proper functioning. * No log exists for FTP on medium status. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not report second nmap scanning within 20 seconds of the first scanning. * Sygate Personal Firewall does not block AOL instant messages using Ultra High Security. * Sygate Personal Firewall may not support a proxy client because it might not have a default gateway. * Sygate Personal Firewall is unable to generate a log for a blocked VPN in medium security. * Disabling network driver under Windows 95 will cause to system to hang. Please check your system for disabled network driver before installing Sygate Personal Firewall.
